Editorial and Research

As cliche as it sounds, I've been writing since high school, often confusing it with journalism. In my defense, we had a student-run inter-Amity newspaper with a proper editorial desk headquartered in south Delhi, backing up the students. We were writing about first world problems, because what are private schools these days if not a bubble?

Cut to college, where I got exposed to another lifestyle; the only motivation for writing and research projects was marks. Thankfully, we had the creative liberty to let our interests make their way into these assignments.

And all this, and the pandemic, led to a few opportunities which gave me a chance at real-world (?) writing, editing, and research.

My latest editorial endeavours have been at 101Reporters and Rukhmabai Initiatives. My role as a subeditor at 101Reporters requires me to ensure a story's logical coherency and take care of other factors— Does it have all the possible sources? Is the timeline clear? Are all claims substantiated? Is there a unique angle we can look at this issue with?

In 2022, we processed almost 220 stories from across India, despite being a small team at the desk. Our reports ranged from beats like environment, gender, health, and education to development, agriculture and conflict; instead of tackling these topics in silos, we took an intersectional approach with a special focus on human impact and community voices.

“a jack of all trades is a master of none, but oftentimes better than a master of one."
